Nowadays, genomic medicine provides new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for all clinical medical specialties by enriching and supplementing them. Hence it is essential to formalize it through the development of curricula that make it part of medical education. The teaching-learning process in this new discipline involves three stages. The first has to do with knowledge of the basic principles of genomic science. The second is aimed at health care applications. And the third is focused on learning about bioinformatics and laboratory tools that can be applied to genomic analysis, in addition to the interpretation and use of genomic information in health care.
The mission of Education is:
To train human resources through an educational philosophy based on critical and analytical reflection that promotes participative and group learning, which entails the application of genomic knowledge to medical practices within an ethical and humanistic framework. Also, links should be established with the major institutions concerned with the quality of education to be reinforced as an academic axis while cooperating with them in the training of human resources in the health field.
