Mexico D.F.- Wednesday, June 17, 2009, The National Institute of Genomic Medicine (INMEGEN) and Juarez Hospital of Mexico (HJM), through Dr.Gerardo Jimenez Sanchez, Director General of INMEGEN, and Dr. Jose Adrian Rojas Dosal, Director General of HJM, signed an academic and scientific collaboration agreement, which establish the foundations of coordination to carry out projects of scientific research, teaching and diffusion of the knowledge, related to genomic area and Internal Medicine.

At this meeting participated by HJM : Dr. Alejandro Treviño Becerra, Director of Research and Education, and Dr. Jose Manuel Conde Mercado, Medical Director. As part of INMEGEN were presented: Dr. Santiago March Mifsut, Director of Research, and the MSc. Cesar F. Lara Alvarez, Director of Entailment and Institutional Development.
Dr. Rojas highlighted that this agreement opens possibilities for research in different parts of health in patients, undoubtedly it will lay to identify factors of risk for certain diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, among others, or in other ways to delay its appearance. Also stressed that medical residents and doctors would be able to obtain more information and formal training in genetics and genomics.
For his part, Dr. March emphasized that today has been crystallized a project that began in August 2008: "Searching for biomarkers of early diabetic nephropathy". This project is under the responsibility of Dr. Laura del Bosque, Research Associate of INMEGEN and it will serve for a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the initial stages of diabetic neuropathy. On the other hand, started other project in one of the most promising areas in terms of medical applications of Genomic Medicine: The Pharmacogenomics, with the project "Comparative study between the dose guided by genotype-phenotype and management in patients who started anticoagulation with Warfarin", by Dr. Francisco Sanchez Giron, Department Chief of Genomic Diagnosis of INMEGEN.

Dr. Treviño affirmed that academic and research links, today has been established. He also invited the medical staff and professionals of the Juarez Hospital of Mexico to proposing new projects in order to obtain high quality thesis of more transcendency and publications of major impact. Undoubtedly, this agreement provides a framework for the activities of both institutions for face successfully the problems of health in the country.
Finally, Dr. Jimenez emphasized that Mexicans is the people who have to develop health benefits to the Mexicans. The development of genomics gives us the foundations for projects applied in the clinical and diagnosis of diseases that contribute to decision making. The signing of this agreement is a reflection of the work has been done between the two institutions to support scientific projects, with teams already established, and even with some results.
Scope of agreement:
1. Training of human resources.
2. Organization of forums, seminars, workshops, symposiums and conferences.
3. Research Projects.
4. Exchange of the information related to the advances in the genomic medicine and the internal medicine.
5. Use of equipment and facilities under the conditions and modalities that point out in the specific agreements.
6. Support on the obtaining of external sources fountains of financing for the different projects of research investigation
7. Exchange of information for innovative Technologies that promote the development of the genomic medicine and the internal medicine.
