Cursó la Licenciatura de Biología en la Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México; obtuvo el grado de Maestría y Doctorado en Ciencias Biomédicas en el área de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular en la Facultad de Medicina, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Realizó un posdoctorado en Albert Einsten College of Medicine. Yeshiva University- Liver Center, New York, USA. Actualmente es Investigadora en Ciencias Médicas - Profesor Titular “A” de Tiempo Completo, adscrito a la Unidad de Vinculación Científica de la Facultad de Medicina, UNAM en el INMEGEN.

En 2014 inició y colabora en las líneas de investigación de Genómica del parto prematuro, Proteómica y Genómica del microbioma, englobando proyectos dirigidos al estudio del nacimiento pretérmino, mecanismos de activación de enzimas que participan en la degradaciòn de las membranas fetales al término de la gestación y estudios de microbioma en la infancia temprana, entre otros temas. Estas líneas han tenido contribuciones importantes, tales como el ser invitado a formar parte del consorcio internacional Preterm Birth Genome Project (PGP), en conjunto con la March Of Dimes Foundation y el Preterm Birth International Collaborative (PREBIC).
Ha publicado 25 artículos de investigación en revistas internacionales y nacionales y 1 capítulo de libro. Muchos de los resultados de las líneas mencionados se han publicado en revistas de alto impacto, tales como Laboratory Investigation, American Journal of Pathology y Molecular Human Reproduction. Cuenta con cerca de 200 citas. Ha dirigido 11 tesis, que incluyen 1 de maestría y 10 de licenciatura. Desde 2016 es profesora del Posgrado de Ciencias Biológicas, UNAM. Ha recibido15 premios y distinciones.
